Posted on the Internet at For the sake of consistency with the website and to help you track airplay, DJs are listed by chart IDs (usually their initials, with oddities noted). The website ( FAR CHART ) displays the current chart with an archive of all charts to date and a complete list of participating DJs.
Each month, every FAR DJ gets to report up to six albums. Their #1, or Album of the Month, is indicated in the chart by their chart ID, but other positions all contribute points. Let me know if you would like a complete list of all the DJs who reported an album.
In certain cases, non-station addresses are listed. Library security and/or the ability of PDs/MDs to route CDs vary greatly between stations, so this may be the only way of ensuring that your album gets played rather than evaporating, going into the discard bin or, even worse, the AAA library. Also, volunteer DJs are able to preview albums. You have my assurance that all the DJs on this list are of good character, and I run periodic checks to ensure that the list is kosher.
Please note that “No Limitations” either means that these DJs will play any kind of roots music, or have committed, voluntarily or as part of their duties as GM, PD, MD or Music Librarian, to pass on any CDs that don’t fit their shows to a more appropriate DJ at the station.
Most FAR DJs, including almost all those overseas, will accept CDs in any packaging. ie you don’t have to mail jewel cases, which usually get cracked or broken anyway, though you must include all the artwork. Others prefer but don’t require jewel cases, some do require jewel cases. To save a lot of tedious repetition, I have abbreviated preferences as [Any], [Prefer] and [Require]. By the way, they all love digipaks.
Some FAR DJs will not download an album under any circumstances, most much prefer CDs but will, if sufficiently motivated, accept downloads, a distinct minority are OK with them. However, it is absolutely essential that all the artwork and any FCC warnings be included with downloads (for best results, one sheets should also be provided). Hardly anyone will accept singles. I hoped we could have a FAR standard for downloads, but there’s no consistency, apart from broadcast quality, in format preference, though iTunes Player is the most popular. It should be noted that unsolicited CDs have a much better chance of getting airplay than unsolicited downloads. DJ preferences follow their packaging preference, eg /Require CDs], /Prefer CDs] (implying "will accept downloads") or /Accept Downloads].
One thing that’s critically important but often overlooked is that warnings about tracks with possible FCC issues should NOT be stuck on the cellophane wrapping which will be discarded. Actually, it’s a small but appreciated courtesy to strip the wrapping off promos. Anyway, language problems should be indicated in some form that can’t be missed.
Mailing labels to Canada and other countries should be marked “Promotional CD(s) No commercial value ($0.00)”
