Honey Don't- Threadbare (click on image to watch video)

After relocating from Colorado to Oregon, Honey Don’t have reconnected to the more acoustic sound from their debut on Threadbare, their third effort. The result is a satisfying homecoming for fans of the surpringly underrated string band. 

The album opens with “Eight More Miles,” perfectly highlighting the charm of the group with Bill Powers and Shelly Gray creating beautiful harmonies over a steady line of bass and brushed drums keeping time with the mandolin, dobro and fiddle. There is an obvious throwback nature to their sound here. The catchy “Denver Ramble,” sounds like it could have been playing from radios in the 1930s and the sweet “For the Roses,” has a timeless quality to it. There are also two covers on the record, Willy Tea Taylor’s “Wrong Way To Run” and Kieren Kane’s “Eight More Miles,” both of which fit nicely here thanks to the band’s ability to remake them into their own style.

Though they left Colorado in 2014, the state still makes cameos throughout a bulk of the songs on the record, (“Red Mountain Pass,” “Big Water Ahead” “Ain’t No Damn Up On Yampa,” “Daybreak on the Muddy,” just to name a few). It may have taken eight years for the band to follow up their last album, but Threadbare proves the wait was well worth it.
